The Use of Biomass for the Production of PELLETS AND BRIQUETTES

What kinds of materials can be processed for making pellets?

Wood:

massive wood, wood waste, bark, wood-chips, wood-shavings, sawdust, wood dust

Straw:

straw stalks, cereal straw, rape straw, hay etc.

Energetic Plants:

Sorrel “Uteusha”, Miscanthus sinensis (“Zebra” grass), Japanese Poplar, etc.

Waste from the seeds of agricultural crops:

broken parts of seeds, outer layers of seeds, husks, glume, awns and waste from vegetable husks.

Simple processing technology:

All types of materials are first broken up into a fine sawdust. Material processed in this way is then passed through the pressing cylinders, where it is pressed into small pellets of a thickness of between 2 – 12 mm. The size of the pellets is determined by the diameter of the holes in the matrix. The length of the pellets ranges between 10 and 60 mm and it varies, specifically, according to the type of raw materials processed.

Capacity:

Capacity greatly depends on the quality of the material. Recommended humidity is 10 to 17%. Hourly capacity is from 50 kg/hr. up to 600 kg/hr. according to the specific machine. Efficiency is also affected by the type of material which is being processed.

  • - Hourly capacity 50 to 100 kg/hr.
  • - Sawdust 50 kg, grass and maize 80 kg, straw 100 kg/hr.
  • - Daily capacity for 8 hours = 480 – 800 kg
  • - Annual capacity 288 – 576 tons (operating three-shifts per day)

Pressing Matrix:

Part of the product is a matrix that has the same service life as pressing drums, which is up to 1 year according to the quantity and the quality of the material. When purchasing a product we recommend buying an additional replacement matrix. Dimensions of holes are 2.2, 3, 4 and 5 mm.

Calorific Efficiency of Pellets:

Pellets are highly suitable for heating boilers with all types of solid fuel. Their calorific value varies according to the type of material from which they are processed.

  • - Sawdust: 16.5 to 18.5 MJ/kg
  • - Straw: 16.5 to 18.5 MJ/kg
  • - Corn: 16.5 to 18.5 MJ/kg
  • - Straw from oil plants: 18.5 to 19.5 MJ / kg
  • - Soft brown coal: 16.7 to 19.5 MJ/kg
